Dog Day Afternoons

Dog Day Afternoon

So I’ve been told

From stories very old

Dark, cruel and mysterious

this God called Sirius.

They say, “when he rises he reigns,

tortures, burns and abstains

everyone from joy and cheer

Oh, Dog days are near!”

In those days, they’d search for us

Cringingly create a royal fuss!

Caught the usual beige & browns

Sacrificed us for their stupid crowns.

And while I sit in this sun

thinking what had we done?

Why simply call US names

& pull us in their silly games

Oh the Gods & his delirious men

How do I explain time and again!

Leave your tales to yourselves

Write & store them in your shelves.

Think of better stories to tell,

Let us relax in this hot hell.

Just wait for dark clouds to come,

So that they black out this burning sun!
