Deep

Deep

I stumbled upon
a rock and fell
What hit me most
I could not tell,
the cold green grass
or its soft sweet smell
Or was it this tree
or its mysterious spell
As I propped myself
on earths warm chest
I watched her core
and her deep nest
What started as
just fun and jest
slowly turned
into a quest.

Queues of ants
travelling in and out
sometimes in hurry
sometimes in doubt,
I saw them bang
each others heads
Made me giggle
‘what fools!’ I said
then watched closer
And I saw this
They were journeying in
Into her abyss
Dark and cold
it was deep inside
and yet they travelled
kept fears aside
“Our strengths lay
in deepest corners
don’t judge darkness
Tell her, warn her!”

Loud enough those ants spoke
My heavy slumber they broke
“Learn, and dig deep
get to the core, go seek
there u’ll chance upon
unopened doors
opportunities abound
In dozens and scores
Don’t just bask
in blinding lights
venture sometimes
into cold nights”

Stunned and still
experiencing thrill
I watched those ants
scratching their bites
Absorbing their rants
Coz they were right
Still waters
indeed run deep
So does darkness
what lessons they reap!
I left from there
with trotting feet
jabbering away
To R. Frost’s beat
I’ve “Miles to go
before I sleep,
miles to go
before I sleep”.
