A simple poem about daisies and a rose. One is always found in abundance, in groups, ordinary but cheerful. While the other is this beautiful, fragrant, loved by all but aloof.
“You bed of white daisies
your warm yellow cores
Oh how happy you look
On hilltops & narrow brooks
I see you sway in waves
Your tiny necks swivel
You make me see these winds
And feel the love within
I, the rose, you see
can’t fight back this envy
my core goes red in rage
Your glee I wish to forage
Why can’t I sway like you?
Why can’t I play like you?
I hate to see you free
I hate this darkness within me”
And then those daisies smiled
swayed again for a while
Sang this song to the rose
Helped her forget the remorse
“Oh beautiful as you are
Your fragrance breaks ajar
You are the love of lovers you see
why fill yourself with envy!
We love your core oh dear
Do not feel so dark come here
Let us take you in embrace
To the winds of love and grace
Fight your loneliness from within
Smile from the heart and sing
Come see the skies these hilltops
Let go off jealousy and stop!
You the rose the mighty queen
Are the prettiest thing to be seen”
And then she wept like a child
In those daisies sans the beguile
Opened up, much lighter
Her heart now warm and brighter
She scattered her petals in delight
Kissed all the daisies in sight
Filled the winds with sweetness
For the daisies who shed off her weakness!
